Newcastle-under-Lyme Deaflympian and Commonwealth Games baton bearer Brian Kokoruwe is hosting a book signing of his new autobiography and a talk about his fascinating life.

About the author

Born in London, I spent the earlier part of my life in Nigeria until I became profoundly deaf and unable to walk after contracting meningitis at 13 years old. I worried about my social, educational and professional life, however after a while, I realised that deafness should not be a barrier to achieving the dreams that I had before the hearing loss. I worked hard and represented Great Britain as an international athlete, as GB Athletics Team Manager and Assistant Technical Director for European Deaf Sports Organisation. I have published two books; “When Mother Cried” and “My Father Tried”, and will be launching my new book “Deaf Not Dumb Or Stupid” at Brampton Museum. The books tell the story of my journey through the early years of my life. Come along to hear how I went through the various challenges and overcame barrier after barrier.
